My gift to myself when I turned sixty was a cello...still playing, turned 70 in November. Had a wonderful Christmas today playing Bach...I feel I have arrived! Wish I could study with you! Thank you...

Her husband just got the job as Music Director of the San Diego Symphony so we've gotten to see quite a bit of both of them and we're all the richer for it. Both of them are consummate musicians in the finest sense and are adding greatly to classical music in Southern California. Our orchestra has a new outdoor venue right on San Diego Bay, overlooking the entire city giving the SD Symphony a whole new season and doubling the work for the musicians.

Funny, Alisa’s rendition of Bach is very tango-like for me... sounds kind of springy. Truly mesmerizing!

Her dialect sounds so unique, I can't get over it. She sounds American, but then hints of what sounds like Irish and English drop in.

I saw her early this year for the first time and I was completely blown away by her performance. I'll be back to see her in April and this time my son and daughter will experience her performance as well.

This comment section is gross, Weilerstein is a genius of cello and this performance is enthralling.

I don't understand why I have discovered just today, by a purely accidental chain of non-events! She is one of the best, if not the best cellist alive!

This comment was ages ago, but I'll paraphrase one of my favorite musicians, Lauren O'Connell: Some of you have commented that my face looks weird when I'm playing. Sorry, I'm too busy making music to care about what my face looks like.

For a long time I really did not think much of the cello as a solo instrument, but thanks to Alisa I am starting to "come around". 03/11/2017

Seriously. Close your eyes and listen - its pretty good. So she's enjoying herself, and why not? If she plays it with such feeling its a natural expression, and I think it adds to the performance.

+Randy A We are all of us a product of conservatories. At least, those of us who go by the traditional lines. We could also play on the streets and learn a few things there. For what she is trying to accomplish, though, I think she plays very well. Genius? Don't think it exists. Ask Sal Khan about that.

To date and i am going by the early filming and articles on Jacqueline Dupre, Alisa isn't close, Jacqueline played piano better than her horrid husband (mediocre conductor and pianist) Barenboim, she is why he got attention (the worst mistake she ever made) however, she is a fair cello player much like Janine Jensen is a fair violinist, the contrived facial expressions and the head jerking etc is not convincing and takes away from the performance. I don't know this women but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and she is not beautiful by any means, let us be rational. I am not being mean, she is not ugly, but in no way beautiful.

That's a really ridiculous and cruel comment. Who are you to judge someone by their looks. ?Everyone is beautiful in their own special way, whether it be internal or external or both. And I'm sorry but when you are half a musician that Daniel Barenboim is, you can call him a mediocre pianist. Which, sorry to say but he's not at all. So please, enough with the hateful comments towards these fine, talented and inspiring musicians.

That is why they have a comments section, people have different opinions, yours does not bother me because you have a right to your opinion. My comment was not judging, it is my opinion going on footage, reading, observing, attending concerts, etc. Lets grow up shall we all art is subjective.

Of course you're judging, Martha -- "judging" is the right word, and "being mean" is the right word (especially wrt Barenboim). And if you say "let us be rational" when you judge beauty, then you say "all art is subjective" when you judge music, you haven't really sorted out your thought process.
