I'm a little envious of those of you about to press play on this Tiny Desk (home) concert. The first time I heard this Argentine duo was love at first sight.
Vocalist and upright bassist Cande Buasso and keyboardist Paulo Carrizo are from San Juan, Argentina, a very small town nestled by the Andes close to Chile. I like to imagine that the secluded location contributes to the magic and nuance of the very personal musical language the two have developed since forming the duo in 2017.
Things kick off with the magic turned up to 11 with Leonard Cohen's "Treaty," from 2016's You Want It Darker. The duo's introduction to the world was a heartbreaking KZread performance of "Barro Tal Vez" by the Argentine rocker and songwriter Luis Alberto Spinetta, and their performance of it here is no less haunting and captivating.
"Limite En Tu Amor," a cover of Feist's "Limit To Your Love," is a preview of one of the tracks that will be included on their upcoming album of covers, produced by Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein. And they seal the deal with "Tuyo," a nod to one of the most unheralded singer-songwriters in Latin America, Rodrigo Amarante of Brazil. Tuyo translates to "yours" and it's a fitting close to the briefest of introductions, but one strong enough to make Cande y Paulo one of our favorite discoveries of 2021.

estoy en una oficina atrás de un escritorio y papeles, nada más deprimente que este ambiente lúgubre plagado de sombras mentales y pasillos que llevan hacia la nada misma, dije...tal vez sólo algo de arte me rescate de este laberinto de espejos sin salida....y me encontré con esto, pude respirar el aire puro de un campo de girasoles, disfrute cada nota, cada matiz de cada canción (plagadas de matices, gracias al cielo), cada caricia de los golpes rítmicos de la batería, cada acorde y por supuesto cada fraseo de esta hermosa voz...he vuelto a respirar...voy a verlo otra vez y otra vez, tal vez encuentre la salida.
Buen camino desde aquel Barro Tal Vez en el mismo teatro y con zapas rojas. La rompen. Merecidísimo Tiny Desk. Para ustedes y para nosotros!

I don't understand hardly anything of what she is singing but I could still listen to this for days.

This video is a gem. I have just fallen in love with "Barro Tal Vez", without understanding a single word. We need this sort of music, a little laid back, even if the words perhaps point in another direction. This music makes my soul to come to rest, thank you Cande, Paulo and Santiago!

@@staffanolofsson8201 maybe you can try "Los libros de la buena memoria"- Invisible (one of the many bands Spinetta had), or "Plegaria para un niño dormido- Almendra (another Spinetta's band). Each song from Spinetta hits different, you may like it as well as "Barro tal vez".

Queridos colegas de Argentina, enhorabuena por esta grabación. La idea y concepto son originales, frescas y diferentes a lo común. La combinación de Cande cantando y tocando el contrabajo es única y hasta me gustaría tocar con ustedes. El piano acústico está muy bien afinado y la combinación de los tres justa y ben organizada. Destaca bien Cande y su voz. Su interpretación al contrabajo con arco y con pizz es muy buena y afinada. todos hacen un excelente equipo y el lugar de grabación se antoja mucho para hacer música por su gran espacio y buen gusto decorativo. Me dejan una excelente impresión. Saludos desde Guanajuato, México. Soy contrabajista y pianista.
Yo sólo conocía su cover de “Barro tal vez” que es increíble, pero honestamente nunca me había puesto a ver más de su música. Qué grata experiencia me da este Tiny Desk. Gracias por su música.

I just woke up, out of the blue, couldn't sleep... then I look at my cellphone and see that there's a new Tiny Desk video. Barro tal vez, performed by the duo, is one of the songs I most listened to during the pandemic. It's so heavy and sad. Always makes me cry, and I need to cry right new. Thank you for giving me another opportunity to let my tears come out.

Paula, there will always be opportunietys to let our tears come out, but this music is if it was made for it. I think we need to cry a lot more, and me, an old man, hasn´t any prestige in it any longer, I can easily cry to this music.

the performance is definitely a huge factor, but it doesn't matter how good you are, the proximity means there's not enough air between her mouth and the microphone to slow them down. I guess it's just the product of combining world class musicians and world class engineers.

@@robertmclellan1605 listened again with headphones. Vocals definitely mixed expertly, not too crisp and not too mellow, probably would've gotten quite a bit of breathiness but the high end is clear
