Gucci Mane: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
Frannie Kelley | December 12, 2016 - Gucci Mane's smile makes you feel like there's still some good in the world. He's really earned it, and that thing is infectious. We asked him to come to NPR because we wanted to be a part of the victory tour he's been on this year: In the past six months or so, Gucci Mane was released early from the federal penitentiary; he proposed to his girlfriend on the kiss cam at a Hawks game, and she said yes; he's releasing a total of three albums, all over which he celebrates his newly committed sobriety; he and Courtney Love look like they get along; and he remade "Jingle Bells."
In this Tiny Desk concert, Gucci Mane performed with just his longtime producer and friend, Zaytoven, on piano. Their version of stripped-down is a minimal backing track and plenty of church-groomed trills. They performed with the understanding that everyone in the room knew their songs - one from 2009 and two from this year - and knew that this performance would represent a surreal dip into a parallel universe where ingenuity is rewarded, snobbery is gone and love is real. Gucci Mane agreed to this unlikely set as a gesture to those people - for remembering his work while he was away, and for cheering on his resurgence, his health, his charm and his singular nature.
The Return Of East Atlanta Santa is available exclusively on iTunes and Apple Music: itunes.apple.com/us/album/eas...
SET LIST:
"First Day Out"
"Waybach"
"Last Time"
MUSICIANS:
Gucci Mane (vocals); Zaytoven (keys).
CREDITS:

How do you love rap when rap doesn’t love you back? From Rico Nasty’s harassment from toxic Carti fans, to Saucy Santana's unapologetically femme aesthetics in a queerphobic industry, to the assault case that put Megan Thee Stallion’s entire image on trial, each episode of Louder Than A Riot - the second season of our investigative hip-hop podcast - unpacks the unspoken rules of rap that hold the entire culture back. Tap in to our first episode at n.pr/louder-season-2.

Yeah I wrote something similar to this too. Tiny Desk is good about getting a lot of different variety of sounds. This is how I discovered most of the folk music I do actually listen to, cuz for the most part what I listen to is hip hop. And not just any hip hop but I like that gangsta grimy shit personally. Like Gucci actually. So it was really cool to see something I actually do listen to on here for a change.

For everyone hating, just know that Gucci was the original trap rapper. He is the equivalent of a Nirvana or Tiesto but in the rap genre. He's paved the way for HUNDREDS of artists and has put on dozens of artists. Don't hate, appreciate a new genre if you're new to trap rap or move onto a different tiny desk video. Edit: And the man on the piano is acclaimed producer Zaytoven. He's produced dozens of top 200 hits and is a legend in the rap genre.

Solomon Stringer he’s saying that, Zaytoven pushed his talent to the point that he doesn’t require eyesight to play the piano. Similar to a blind man, like Ray Charles. Or Stevie Wonder. He’s more in tune to his ears, than his eyes. When it comes to music. If that makes sense to you.

***** The content he talks about is his own personal life as a black man in the hoods of Atlanta and where it took him. Did you listen to the third song where he talks about drugs not being fun anymore and that he is now sober? It's not even for dumb people. It's fun music that you play when you wanna be braggadocios like Gucci. It's not that serious fam. Also, if you really think all rap is like this, then you are being ignorant in ignoring all of the other good rap/hip hop there is out there that is truly musical and lyrical.
Wow! Just seeing Zaytoven at work is outstanding! Him and Gucci make a crazy duo. Zaytiggy is the modern day Mozart and that's on everything!

+HAZZARD I don't think it's sensible to compare Zaytoven to Beethoven. People like Beethoven dedicated their time to creating a single piece of music, and Zaytoven has made probably thousands of 2-4 minute long instrumentals. I guarantee if he created a single coherent piece that focused entirely on melody, it would be just as impressive as classics.

Damn this is so real. My favourite artists are Hozier, Father John Misty, and Ben Howard so I'm used to that kind of music from NPR but for Gucci to walk in there and have a great time regardless of the audience size or demographic is so dope. Not to mention Zay is an animal on those keys. Respect to NPR for doing this
Zay on the keys made this a totally unique and amazing performance.
Definitely the best from Tiny Desk Concerts
It's so good seeing Gucci clean even though I miss his old self. And Z is a musician for real !
