For me, no one has ever been able to paint a picture so clearly like Samuel Beam does when he sings. His story telling above anyone else, so clear and vivid and create a feeling a recall. Like I'm living the memory myself.

***** Kendrick Lamar is also a very good story teller, I know it's a different genre all together but I admire how he tells his stories, very poetic...Sam Beam is the best in his genre...he has the ability to make you evaluate your whole life, past relationships etc

Definitely agree on what you said about Sam. I remember about 2 years ago the first time I listened to his music, I mean I had heard it before, but when I actually sat down and listened to it I found myself with this feeling of needing to right my wrongs, not so much as guilt but pride. That's how you know you've stumbled upon something amazing. Never listed to Kendrick much, might consider it. In that genre Lupe Fiasco is my favorite story teller. "Luck Push II" is a modern marvel of rhymed story telling.

He has such a great falsetto and great transition in and out of it, sounds so natural. This guy speaks to my heart.

So is this comment~
Tree By The River is outrageously good.
1:56 I really like the way this part progresses into a howl while he sings about a half moon.
I saw I&W at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa in 2015. Halfway through the show, Sam sent the band backstage, took a stool up to the microphone, and said "Ok, what do you guys wanna hear?"
I didn't hear Naked As We Came in many years and the sudden return of the unique emotions of his music made me cry
I think I've listened to this like 300 times.
I love the fact that even after all this time and all the experience he has playing in front of crowds, he acts a little uncomfortable in front of a crowd. It's that vulnerability that comes out in his music.

"Kiss each other clean" , in my top five albums for me in the last 20 years.
I get lost in this video every single time I watch it. This is the definition of painting pictures with music.
What is it about his voice that makes me misty-eyed almost every time? I don't even need to hear the lyrics, it's just the tone. Sheesh.

Theres something about seeing musicians like this who are really down to earth that makes their music even better. Makes me feel connected to the musician and the music.
He's so adorable! I just want to snuggle in some warm blankets and blast everything he's ever made but I fear that I wouldn't come out for several weeks.
What I find very genuine about this is when the office breaks out into laughter. Moments like this in the Tiny Desk Concerts really remind me that this is more than just a live show, it's an intimate show. There's banter and connection with the audience on a personal level and listening to or watching the artist interact with that is so fascinating.

I listened to this Tiny Desk (and Sam Beam) all the time when I was in high school. Coming back to this years later, tree by the river speaks to me in a new way. There are blue-eyed birds and all that, though my Maryanne passed away. The "but I wondered to who, and what it is you're saying today", feeling that.

Grateful to have found these concerts at 34 years old. Some of the artists I know, some I've never heard of. But happy to have broken out of listening to only artist I know. Take care everybody.
