Lake Street Dive: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Josh Rogosin | April 27, 2021
Lake Street Dive filmed its Tiny Desk (home) concert where the band is most at home: on stage at the “biggest little venue in NYC,” Pete’s Candy Store. All five band members managed to squeeze onto a stage no larger than the actual Tiny Desk to shine a spotlight on the Save Our Stages Act. Congress passed the $15 billion grant program last December as part of the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill. In the middle of the home concert, bassist Bridget Kearney recalls driving to the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn for a gig at Pete’s, then driving back to Boston the very same night, long before they ever sold out Radio City Music Hall on the other side of the East River.
It’s hard to believe the band has released seven studio albums. Its latest, Obviously, provided the setlist for this intimate performance and prominently features the newest member and co-songwriter, keyboard and vocalist Akie Bermiss. Hopefully we’ll all be packed into tight venues again soon, adding the thunderous applause we’re all yearning to contribute. Until then, we’ll just have to settle for clapping at our screens.

Okay, I don't want to take away anything from the rest of this band, who are just excellent in every respect, but I have to point out that this bass player is making that standup sound like a bass guitar, which absolutely blows my mind! Her timing, chops, tone and intonation are phenomenal! And ironically, I think it's the goal of many a bass guitarist to make their instrument sound like a standup bass... I'm so in awe here!

I first learned about Lake Street Dive because my little brother had a crush on Bridget Kearney.
I will forever Love Lake Street Dive. Rachael has an amazing voice that I would take over any American female singer. Bridget's bass speaks for itself. I went to BU and was in college around the time they got starter. I swear I have been on the very corner they filmed their cover of "I Want You Back". Wish I could have seen them perform back then

NPR: we have a new Tiny Desk (Home) concert for you Me: say no more
LSD is such a great band. I absolutely love them. Sad to hear of McDucks departure but I wish him all the best. He surely will be missed.
Immediate action was totally necessary for this 🎶🔥
One morning my clock radio woke me up with "Good Kisser" and I sat up like I'd been hit with 240 volts. Could not understand what year it was or how this sound had escaped my notice. That was right when "Free Yourself Up" was released, and I've been on the train ever since. Blown away with each new release, and lucky to have seen them in Taos a couple years back. No better band today. Thanks, Tiny Desk!
The back up vocals in this band are just incredible.
This music flows over you like an extremely hot shower on a relatively cold and long arduous day. Just feels good. Remember when music was this good?
I saw Rachel once on Frenchmen street in New Orleans and I almost fainted from her aura.
OMG. I didn't know I was wishing for a Tiny desk with LSD including Akie in the Band! But here it is and I. Love. It.

McDuck plays so quietly but effectively in that clean tone the whole time. Amazing. Love the gold plate, cream colored tele too.

Shame, Shame, Shame was probably the first Lake Street Dive song I ever heard - on my local public radio station in 2018. Didn't know who they were but then found their cover of Take On Me and I've been a huge fan ever since. My favorite is Rachel's vocals on "What I'm Doing Here"
stellar musicianship. sing, play, write - like something from another time. But Bridget's bass lines are equal to the best of the Motown era.
Everyone in this band has exemplary musical skills l saw them in the UK before the plague hit us all and they were terrific. Yep they were all fab ………but Bridget…..oh Bridget!

Actually there is a long list of guitar players who move very little and contribute a lot: David Gilmour comes to mind first. This guitarist here is either out of tune or he’s just hitting a lot of flat notes by mistake, either way he is the weak point in this otherwise stellar band IMHO.

Every time I hear something new from Lake street Dive I become even more impressed with them.
You know... lots of musicians really stepped up to help us keep our sanity (to some degree) during the worst of COVID, and we are really lucky in that regard.
First watched them on Colbert (Report), and have been hooked since! Seen them twice live, hopefully many more, but this is the next best thing!
Second time around and what a performance!
Found a new gem. So smooth!
These people somehow channel the energy, color, even the innocence of the 1970s; Things mostly missing in popular music. Plus they made the bravest cover of Take On Me ever.
Hypotheticals is an absolute BOP!! One of their best song IMO!
