Patty Griffin: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
Patty Griffin has always had a gift for locating a song's nerve endings; for surveying her subject matter and identifying the most efficient possible pathways to listeners' emotions. Her warm, wise voice is comforting, inviting and relatable, even - perhaps especially - as she tackles weighty subjects like middle age and the death of a parent.
The memory of Griffin's father hangs over her recent seventh album, American Kid, but the singer remains far too resourceful to make it a collection of navel-gazing dirges about mortality. In sampling a few of the record's many highlights at the NPR Music offices, she takes care to balance the exquisite mourning of "Faithful Son" - and the sweetly somber "That Kind of Lonely," which Griffin describes as "a song about finally letting go of your delayed adolescence" - by closing her set with the playfully bawdy, kindly celebratory "Get Ready Marie." Inspired by a favorite photo of her grandparents, the song finds Griffin viewing two complicated lives with the generous, hopeful eye she's been casting on her subjects for three fruitful decades now. --STEPHEN THOMPSON

My granddaughter grew up listening to Patty Griffin with me; something we shared together. We would sing her songs together and make memories that will last her lifetime. My granddaughter is a vocal major now and when she sang a Patty Griffin song for a formal event recently, well, it just doesn't get better than that, thank you Patty Griffin.
Stand up and take notice... in a world of throw away, bubblegum, overdubbed, voice synthed so called music ... THIS is what a REAL ARTIST looks like. ANYTHING performed by this woman will knock you down with it's imagery and the raw emotional power of her voice. So many years so many albums and she still amazes me.

Patty Griffin is a singer songwriter extraordinaire. She is sprinkles magic on the world.
Patty and her guitar is just the best sound. Her musicians are doing the best they can.
I was recently driving over the San Francisco bay bridge on my way home and Patty Griffin came on the radio. I had never heard her before. I am a 67 year old man and I literally broke into tears hearing her voice. How have I gotten this far through life without having heard her sing before...

the third song is priceless. I remember seeing patty on landsdownde street in Boston I was a manager of the other side café and a huge fan of her music, as we all were. but this show I went to alone I had a few bourbons and stumbled upon an older couple in he middle of the floor. I promptly told them patty griffin was my favorite artist of all time, only to be replied with "well im glad cause she's our daughter. so we drank and hugged and sang the whole night but somewhere along the way got separated. good job Griffins. good fucking job. what a national treasure you gave us. liam from boston

I’ve listened to this lady for over 15 years, every time she sings it is a complete joy to listen. One of the THE GREATEST singer songwriters ever. Just love her😊
Finally. I've been waiting forever for Patty Griffin to be on Tiny Desk, and the wait was so worth it.

Patty Griffin is indeed a Treasure. She got me through some intense moments in my life in the year after the “Mad Mission” album came out. I will never forget her show in Boulder with the Blind Boys, or the many amazing shows at The Ark in Ann Arbor. I recall vividly the day she released Children Running Through album - a teal gem. NPR interviewed her and she sang the Trapeze Circus lady song. There is more wisdom in the average Patty Griffin song than in in your average Old Testament Proverb or Greek Myth. Thank you Patty for singing like an angel all these years🌈

Extremely plesant singer that hits the spot musicaly speaking!
I've seen her front row by blind luck and heavenly gift 9 times. I've loved and treasured a number of musical artists in my lifetime, but I sense, strongly, in these my final years, when all is sung and done, she may well be the voice that has spoken most truly for my sense of this world, this grey, sorrowful world where honest effort and diligent faithfulness only get you so far and that the race to win inside may never be won, never be won at all but only run honestly to its preordained conclusion. Perhaps there's a happiness in the resignation to fate and endings foretold before any of us managed to get born.

Hi guys, I'm french from Paris and ............ that really talks to me. She's great. Thank you for sharing.
I was at the Deja Vu Lounge in New Orleans on Dauphine and Conti with an ex. At a table was a student/ dancer...just the 3 of us in the bar and the girl studying was playing something INSANELY GOOD on the jukebox and I had to ask. I walked over to her and asked who we were listening to....She said "Oh that's Patty Griffin, she's great!!" She's been in my ears ever since!
Not even my most favorite bands can bring out the emotion that she does every time I listen to anything she does.
From the heart, no frills Americana, like only Patty can deliver. Love this stuff.
That Kinda Lonely, one of my favorite Patty Griffin songs, along with Let Him Fly. Beautifully sung from the heart.
A voice with incredible depth ...like the deep mysterious sea ...Love her and her songs that dance around that stunning voice .x
I saw Patty Griffin play at the Hatch Shell in Boston, MA about 25 (?) years ago.......absolutely amazing!! Such beauty !!
What a writer, what a voice!!
I have always loved her, driving eight hours once to see her. She is so vulnerable like the rest of us. Honest to her roots unlike most of us.
Patty's poetic poise transports me into every story she tells. This woman is tapped into a sensitivity of song that few musicians transcend; beauty of spirit and poignant turn of phrase. God is a wild old dog is about as good as a song gets.
No matter what happens in my life I’m just grateful to exist in a world where this magical creature also exists. ✨

The first song means a lot, if you're an older guy, who did everything described in the lyrics: did what his country asked, kept those promises, came back, raised a child, kept those promises; a child who grew up and never knew who I'd been and who I am. Sometimes there are tears when I hear this song.
