Sevana: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Abby O'Neill | January 26, 2021
These days it's nice to have an audience cheer you on, even if it's just the lighting crew. Burgeoning Jamaican soul singer Sevana and her six-piece band shot and recorded this Tiny Desk (home) concert at the Kingston Creative Hub back in September 2020 (the interludes you'll hear about the pandemic are reflective of that time). Sevana, a member of Protoje's In.Digg.Nation collective, showcases her vocal range by jumping delicately between traditional R&B, Caribbean gospel and soul, with touches of reggae interspersed.
Sevana was nervous for this shoot, but her humility and honesty shone through. On "Blessed," an infectious ode about the miracle of life and faith, she welcomes us with open arms into her church and demonstrates the wide range of her multi-octave voice. She closes out the four-song set with her most recognizable tune, "Mango," a dancehall-influenced love song. These Tropical percussive vibes are sure to send a surge of warmth and joy out to the masses, especially for all of those immersed in below-freezing temperatures in the dead of winter.

She has made me a true fan with that Blessed Song! Big up to JESUS!!!! Yeshua Hamashiach!!!
Blessing to Queen Sevana nice smooth Neo -Soul Reggae Vibe. Blessing to the Elder Jamaican Queens Sister Charmaine and Yvonne Sterling who has just passed away and pave the way for these new youthful talented Queens. Queens like Sevana, Lila Ike, Koffee, Jaz Elise, Naomi Cowan, Jah9, and Kelissa of the Zinc Fence Camp keep the vibe, spirit and fire 🔥 blazing . It would be nice to see a virtual concert with all these Queens together performing. 🔥

GORGEOUS
When I first clicked on this I had no idea who this was. She sang and I assumed she was American because for whatever reason many singers sound American when they sing then she started talking..lol. I said oh! We got an island girl! Cool! Then I read the comments and see she's Jamaican. Big up Jamaica! This sista is 🔥!👏🏾👏🏾
Sevana is among the best of our current vocalists out of Jamaica we are “blessed” by her vocal prowess with each song. 👌🏾❤️🔥
Thank you for bringing Jamaica to your show. I love this woman. Her face, her skin, her voice, her body. I love her. She makes me feel proud to be a girl from this little island.
The 68 people that don't like this have never known good music and need prayer. Absolutely love SEVANA..!!!!She's so talented!!! Me love you like MANGO!!!
Yess Sevana, we’ve been waiting. Me love you like you like mango girl 😍😍😍😍
They finally gave my Queen a tiny desk. God bless.
I LOVE YOU SEVANA. I HAVE BEEN WITH YOU SINCE "BIT TOO SHY". YOU MAKE STRIVE TO BE A BETTER MAN

I was thinking the exact same thing... if you listen to her music on musical platforms, there are moments where they actually sound alike. I haven’t quite gotten through this concert yet to tell. Still on the 1st song - lol. But Amazing comment! 🤩

In my opinion, She sounds nothing like beyonce, she has her own colorful voice, unique of a voice. I think what makes her similar is the way she does the high notes beautifully , i dont know any other reggae artist with them high notes so far.... but Don't get me wrong i love beyonce they both have beautiful voices. Perhaps she is a hope for this generation.
Never expected this Sevana singer to be on NPR, aside from her friend Lila Ike. I first seen her on that reggae song _Rock and Groove_ ! NPR is a prodigy of inviting various artists around the world, even the ones that arent too too known. Big ups for featuring Sevana and they should invite Sampa the Great on NPR one day!

had to like as soon as I heard her "Haaaaaah" at the intro
Sevana literally has one of the smoothest voices I've ever heard. Pure beauty! Respect!!!

Y’all sleeeeepp on Sev!!! She’s honestly one of the most versatile female Jamaican singers!!!

Gutted I didn’t get to see Sevana (alongside Lila Iké and Proteje) in London last year as it got cancelled due to Covid - but this is a good substitute.
