Shearwater: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
A glorious four-song set that's at once pristine and ramshackle - equal parts clarity and clatter - not to mention one of our best Tiny Desk Concerts yet.

Jonathan Meiburg is a wonderful human being who cares for bird and animal life and the music that pours out of him is a reflection of that love for all forms of life... Shearwater is his way of telling his stories and when he sings it is from his heart and is simply astonishingi
When the guitar started up I felt shivers down my spine. When the vocals started I didn't even know what to do-it was that good!
That is one amazing voice.

I have been a big fan of Shearwater and , for me, it all started with Jonathan Meiburg's amazing vocal talents. His voice is an instrument all unto itself. And his lyrics read like poetry.
Can we get a refresh on Shearwater at the Tiny Desk?!

No, why? Pick others...have too much!!!
This was my first introduction to Shearwater. I still come back to it. Beautiful set.
I have not listen to Shearwater in a while. Forgot how beautiful their music is.
Songs: "Rooks" "Leviathan, Bound" "North Col" " I Was A Cloud" Session date: November 14, 2008
That voice! What a gift.
I've watched a lot of Tiny Desk concerts, and this one is still my favorite. Amazing sound.
Absolutely beautiful voice, tunes , lyrics , and the meaning behind this music . Very inspiring indeed 😊🎶❤️😊🎶❤️
Fun fact: that guy who speaks in the beginning (with the long hair) is named Thor Harris and he's in SWANS! Or was, rather. For their recent incarnation. Also in Angels of Light. He's an amazing drummer/homemade instruments player. Really brings the colors to light.

@@carmencaamano9434 what a strange question.
I've got the Rooks album now and it's fantastic! Leviathan, Bound is my favourite track at the minute. Thank you NPR, your Tiny Desk Concerts have got me into so much great music.
Came across Sheerwater through music they made for a film about Tristan de Cunha. Fine analogue stuff in a digitally dominated age. Many thanks.
when i was a teenager they brought one of those water instruments to an ecological thing on the cliffs at PT Fermin...it changed my life.
yeah, what a breathtaking session!
Really inspiring to hear the great variety of artists here on NPR's channel. Thanks, NPR!
Absolutely brilliant.
Simply awesome
This band have crept up on me over the last year. His voice really reminds me of someone from the eighties....any ideas??
Fantastic!
This is incredible
so beautiful
Every time some dude opens a falsetto, the Tim Buckley comparisons arise. I think he's got his own sound, but the Mark Hollis influences I heard of before listening to the band are more accurate IMO. Some late Talk Talk to the feel of the music, too. Ah, whatever. Shearwater is a wonderful band. Glad I just discovered them.
wow this sounds so amazing high
So beautiful 💕💕💕💕💕
Cool. I totally know that dude with the 3D glasses. That's Jordan Geiger. I love their cover of Novacane. I just bought the split 7" a couple days ago
Mesmerizing.
Thor is really rocking the David St Hubbins look and voice!
*gallop, gallop* "Thou have cometh from the hills o' yonder. May I invite thee to break bread with thy company?"
❤
I listen it first time in 2009.
Miss those VHS days
Oh my . . . *GASP!*
the second song is my favorite---
@TheDaddyO44 Perhaps Mark Hollis, of the band Talk Talk (check out the song New Grass).
Shearwater is an incredible band. And Kim Burke is the most lovely woman in modern music.
his Voice is epic. Simon and Garfunkly.... but has more feeling ...fantastic
@jzrull88 He has yes, but jonburmeister's suggestion of Mark Hollis is probably closer to what I was thinking. It's also either Ferg Harper or Steve Hogarth (who went on to join Marillion) when they were in the band Europeans back in the eighties - I think it's the way the whole timbre of his voice transforms when he sings the loud/powerful bits
@elboy86 It's called Rooks, from the album "Rook".
I went and looked it up---the waterphone. Found some great stuff: Mark Korven. I think I know what the concept of the album's about. John Olguin, Pt. Fermin, CA put on a class when i was a kid. People played those instruments out to sea and the whales answered.
It is not called a waterphone because of Richard Waters but because it has water in it. I know. Richard Waters
@TheDaddyO44 He's got some Bowie in him.
☺️
guy with 3d glasses...the guy from Back to the Future 2!
Hahahahah! I DID make your avatar! NPR brings people of all subcultures together, I guess. :P
wow... channelling Tim Buckley from the 60's...

rainy daze, First song on here is called Rooks............
Holy... Either you made my avatar, or the same person made both of ours. And someone else on FA turned me on to Shearwater.
would you spell them "Kahn and Celeznik" i'll try typing that in.
Did anyone else feel some awkward tension in Thor's "Yeah" after Jonathan's Lost joke? xD
