The Lemon Twigs: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
Jan. 17, 2018 | Bob Boilen -- It's as if brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario fell from the sky, victims of a transporter beam gone awry in 1971, and landed here at my desk with guitars in hand, right next to a perfectly tuned Yamaha upright piano. When they dusted themselves off, Brian (20) and Michael (18) channeled their deep admiration for The Beatles with their own original tunes as The Lemon Twigs, playing songs from their recent EP Brothers Of Destruction, a natural extension to their debut album Do Hollywood, filled with Paul McCartney-pop leanings.
At this Tiny Desk Concert, the layers of sound found in The Lemon Twigs' recordings are stripped away, which makes the lyrics more noticeable, words that at times feel destined for a Broadway stage.
It was almost eerie seeing two young adults at my desk who look an awful lot like I and many of my friends did back around 1970. It's uncanny, almost as if Brian and Michael have been somehow shielded from the 21st century. But the truth is they look and sound like they do because they live in a world where everything is at their fingertips, where they can dive deep and explore and create a niche.
It's fair to say that the strength of The Lemon Twigs is in the songwriting and the way they layer their recordings with their multi-instrumental talents. I love what they do, not as nostalgia but for its explorations of melody, harmony and lyrics that are memorable. Even stripped down, they are a whole lot of fun.

Before I even landed on this tiny desk concert, I had heard a song of theirs on the radio and immediately sent it off to my childhood friend because it gave me memories of the 1970s a.m. radio. It was the I don’t know how to fall into place song, thank you so much for sharing this. I love them now.
There’s only one way to improve upon this perfection: mustaches.

Had the privilege of seeing Brian at a DrugDealer set in Brooklyn. His cover of 'Bridge over Troubled Water' by Simon & Garfunkel was a perfect imitation, an amazing performance. One to remember !

They're incredible. They have that 70s Todd Rundgren-esque pop sensibility, and they're honest and authentic.

Phenomenal group with nowhere to go but up. ...Actually, I think they're moving in all three dimensions of space and have conquered time travel.
Seriously people are sleeping on this band. These guys are incredible! Wake up and get on the train, these guys are legendary. 💜🙌🏾❤️ forever a believer
I'm so used to listening to light and love on spotify I forgot how beautiful this live version is.
Im so glad they are getting bigger they really deserve it
has mccartney heard these guys? those harmonies and chordal movements are so rich, it's one thing to be influenced by the greatest band of all time, it's another to do it on the same level, these guys no doubt are capable of many great things musically.

hot take: Paul McCartney can’t write as good as these guys at this point in time. just compare the albums they’ve put out this year. The Twigs’ was certainly better, not perfect by any means, but pretty good. Paul McCartney’s was a brutal pop mess with some of the worst tracks of the year.

@@steadyrhythms9571 He's 76. I think he's done proving himself at this point. He paved the ground that these kids walk on. They definitely have some great melodies and tunes a la Beatles but they still sound like their own thing.
Farkkkk me ! How good is this ! Real Music with melody , whimsy and meloncholy. So many delicious influences that have been assimilated into new 'FAB' Music .
"...And I find I'm no one, I'm feeling more love than before... - I am nothing - I'm no one - It's wonderful - " The perfect beauty and grace of freedom ! I'm so grateful Brian wrote this !

Laina M 4 years ago?!!! They were like 15 or something?! I don’t know how old are they but it’s amazing! They’re so good and so young it’s ridiculous
They still have a lot to offer. Definitely digging this band and I've been watching most of their performances on youtube. You go D'Addario bros!
Shout out to the dude on the left!! Anyone remember a movie called Sinister? It came out back earlier this decade. While it was a solid meh film overall, anyone who remembers the film at all will remember a terrific scene with a shirtless demon child leaning backwards out of a box and screaming at Ethan Hawke. That was indeed Michael! Happy to see he didn't abandon art even though he stopped acting.

Also in "People Like Us" with Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Michelle Pfeiffer, playing Banks' son, Josh. It's a good movie and Michael did a very good job in a much bigger role.
This is the beginning of the 70's comeback, and I can't be happier!
"Something wrong...? In front of all these people."

My sweet babies, babes. Hands down the best live show I've been to.
Wasn't too sure how I felt about these guys, but the second half of Beautiful caught me by surprise, as did the rest of the set. Nice job, boys!

Junahblue dude I was walking around ACL 2017, I heard some beautiful music playing in the background, so I followed the tunes, and I thought these guys were covering a Beatles song, so I lit up a joint, and I was mind blown 🤯 by theses guys, Brian kept jumping around, while Micheal was twerking on the stage. Lol they definitely put on an amazing show, I watched them both weekends, and I’m gonna see them perform in Austin again this October!
Just discovered these young men. I get a Todd Rundgren/10cc feel and I love it

Their second album was a musical called Go To School. It’s about a chimpanzee raised as a human, who is going through adolescence. Todd Rundgren plays (sings) the part of the dad.
The keyboardist isn't in this video but he goes to the same college as me. He transferred in the same year.

HOLY SHIT
I clicked on the video because my dad had a beautiful peavey T-60 just like the lead guy...but I found a cool band along the way! Nice job guys!
these guys give hope to music today
The lyrics for "Beautiful" reminds me of the poem Tabacaria / The Tobacco Shop by Álvaro de Campos. At the beggining of the poem, he says “I’m nothing. / I’ll always be nothing. / I can’t want to be something.” The content of the poem as a whole is also very related to the lyrics. Maybe it was an inspiration, who knows. Anyway, I love these guys.
Beautiful, yes I also thought Beatles as soon as he started singing.
Their outfits are always awesome
man these talented dudes are soo underrated :(
Finally. So hype this happened.
Sounds exactly like the studio recording
PERFECT!
Awesome
love them👍👍
