ADG7: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
For the second consecutive year, NPR teamed up with globalFEST in January 2021 for a thrilling online music festival we call Tiny Desk Meets globalFEST: three nights, nine bands, and a world of musical traditions hosted by African pop star Angélique Kidjo. Now, we're posting all the sets from our festival as individual Tiny Desk (home) concerts.
Bob Boilen | January 27, 2022
With one foot in the world of tradition and another in glitzy, upbeat pop, ADG7 (Ak Dan Gwang Chil) is a multi-award winning group inspired by Korea's sacred, shamanic ritual music (gut) and beloved folk songs (minyo) of Hwanghae Province in the northern reaches of the peninsula.
Performing from Hyehwa, Korea, their powerful performance presents the spiritual blessings and positive energy of traditional music in a thoroughly modern and often comical style. ADG7 was organized in 2015, the year Korea commemorated its 70th anniversary of national liberation, and first performed in-person at globalFEST in January 2020. --The globalFEST staff

I had the pleasure of working with ADG7 at the Philadelphia Folk Festival several years ago. As drum and equipment tech for the main stage it was necessary for me to interact with them. What a wonderful group of musicians. They could not have been nicer or easier to work with. I have been a fan ever since.

We just saw them live at Urkult in Northern Sweden on a huge stage, the power and energy of this group was overwhelming. Incredible musical experience!
I saw them live on Thursday and the presence, power and enthusiasm of these three frontwomen is so incredible.
To Korean folk what Dakha Brakha is to Ukrainian folk...keeping it true while taking it into the future. I love this ensemble. So musical and so intelligent.

ADG7 is incredible! We presented ADG7 in November 2021, and the sold-out house was jumping!!!!!
Thank you NPR and globalFEST! I love how young people in other countries and cultures are blending their traditional music and instruments with more contemporary styles of music and more modern instruments, keeping the old ways and looking to the future at the same time. I've fallen in love with ADG7 and will be looking for more of their music. Thank you to the members of the group for sharing their awesome musical art! Sending love and positive vibes from the swamps of Louisiana!🎶💖
Just stonkingly fabulous. Music covers time and territory and catches the heart off guard wherever you happen to be. South Korea rocks a corner of Northern Ireland ..... Love and respect to all concerned and all listening.

Wonder what Korean folk music sounds like when it's not rocked up - because these guys are rocking it up like crazy, even if they're using mostly traditional instruments.
