Amanda Shires: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
Maybe it's the quiver in her voice or the poetry in her spare writing, but there's a magnetic pull that draws fans into the songs and stories of Amanda Shires. Watch the singer and fiddler bring her charming music to the NPR Music offices.
Set List:
"Swimmer..."
"Shake The Walls"
"When You Need A Train It Doesn't Come"

This is 11 years old. Can't believe I'm just hearing it now (10/23). I find her voice/song writing/fiddle playing to be exquisite!!!
I can't think of any woman who has the intriguing mix of vulnerability, beauty and underlying fierceness Amanda possesses. Her song writing, singing and playing are beautiful, but I'm utterly fascinated with the complexity of her personality. She's a definite one of a kind.

You are absolutely right in that assessment, Scott. She seems so vulnerable, then so strong and "fierce," as you suggest. In any case, she is a supreme talent, likely better than Jason. But she is also a mother and partner, the strong part. She is complex and one of a kind, as you say.
This is about the 10th time to watch, I cant not get enough of Amanda, Jason Isbell is the luckiest man alive.
That fiddle solo in the train song (10:17) is amazing. It ends in a locomotive shriek that she silences by singing the next verse. Crazy good acoustic moment.
This woman deserves way more attention. Wonderful sound and talent!
"Would you like a song about suicide or love? Alright, we'll do the one about trains." So good.
Such an unusual voice. Love her vibrato with the southern accent. Great artist and songwriter. 😀
Pretty much every album that I've actually paid for in the past year has been an artist I've heard on tiny desk concerts.
Very talented and beautiful lady. Great whistler! ❤❤
Amanda is a wonderful artist Her writing is very interesting, thoughtful and beautiful - her voice has a halting and vulnerable quality that draws you in and is wonderfully fascinating Her albums full of magic and 'when you need a train ...' is a brilliant song
I could listen all day to her voice and inspired fiddle moments!
Oh wow! Thanks to NPR Tiny Desk Concerts, I have now found another amazing voice to love!
I have never seen Amanda look the same twice. She is always beautiful though.

I think I could watch and listen to Amanda forever. Such an expressive voice and what a great fiddle player.
Her voice sounds so fragile... and her fiddle sounds so fierce!

Neat contrast - hadn’t thought about her that way, but she seems to embody opposites somehow.
I had to watch this 5 times it’s so special
one of a kind! thank you for this music Amanda
Amanda has the voice of angels...
oh boy, she whistles? I'm in love. Her and Andrew Bird should make a collab; if they haven't already.
If you enjoy this, you should absolutely look up her performances with her husband Jason Isbell. He is an absolutely incredible singer/songwriter.

I'm late to the party Jason brought me to Amanda- I just saw him (them) the other night and I became curious about her. I love their story, love him and now.... love her!
That is Rod Picott with Amada. Both are very talented people.

Gorgeous little concert. Of course, I say this about all NPR Tiny Desks but I really mean it this time.

Her voice reminds me of Agnes DeMent's. I like her writing too -- I hear she's rocking harder these days, and that's a good thing.

Victor Edwards I hear a faint sound of Dolly come out from time to time, but you're right about Melanie. It's been a long time since I even thought of her! Amanda is one of her own though, a new style with I feel a great future. And her with Jason together are magic! :)

It would be great to see her and Andrew Bird have a fiddler / violin player's whistle-off.

Got. Too. Big? Excuse.
I really want to like Amanda Shires, and keep trying. She's a fantastic musician and very good singer. I just don't hear songs when I hear her solo stuff. It's a lot of strumming and singing with no melodies or hooks, and instrumental playing that doesn't advance in any particular direction. When it's over, I can't remember it. I guess I just don't get her.
