People work there whole lives to get into the recording academy in order to vote on the Grammys, there was a huge transition to the younger generation over covid as the older voters died. And once you win a grammy that grammy award winning title sticks with you your whole life that's front page news in your home town, respect from your family and friends, and most importantly more business opportunities and better pay across the board as well as better placements on lineups. Unless you are Kanye if your a musician who makes a living off it you care about the Grammys.

Every artist uses autotune and editing software to some degree for albums to make them perfect. Some need more help than others. Some use autotune as their gimmick. Its a wide range

It's one of my favorite parts of the album. It's so technically impressive, especially for pop.

I've never played with anyone remotely on THIS level but I can totally vibe with the band members spontaneously cheesing at how incredible her voice is. It's a great feeling, being awestruck like that

I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that Caroline has a background in opera training so she has excellent technique compared to most pop singers. She's very talented.

Same. I saw her in London on Valentine’s Day this year, having not heard too much of her stuff. But her music is so intuitive I felt like I’d already been listening for years. She was just truly wonderful, she IS music to me

I'm just mesmerised by her honestly. she did the job of taking these very digital, electronic songs and translating them into a more organic, analog sound amazingly. each rendition felt so different yet so essentially the same as the record and each was very special. Caroline's voice is still something unearthly that I cannot fathom. want to see her live soo bad !!!!!

I was fortunate enough to see this performance in person! I was blown away with how talented Caroline and her entire band were.

The control she has in her voice is wild

the industry NEEDED someone like caroline, someone extremely fresh and unique that still sees value on some traditional features on music, she is so new and so never the same, like, when we listen to desire, we get that it's SO CAROLINE and so none other than her, but it's still so different compared to pang and to her previous work as ramona lisa, CEP and chairlift. Also, you know we're seeing a very original and versatile artist when we see how her own songs are clearly made. Caroline uses a lot of the hyperpop producing and even imaginarium but then we watch her tiny desk concert and all of her songs, even I Believe (which is prob the most hyperpop / electronic of them) can be played acoustically so you know, no one mixes traditional music and progressive takes on music better than her. We're literally seeing the rise of the music genius of our generation.

One thing a fair few hyperpop fans don’t realise (especially if ur not British) a lot of it is inspired by UKG (garage) I believe has always felt more garage than hyperpop to me and a lot of the early PC music stuff took from that and 10’s pop

The precise timing of these musicians with her vocals is so amazing.

First time to hear her and when the video started playing, I had to double-check if I was listening to a live performance. The clarity in her voice puts it in front of the instruments, like she's right in front of you. Her voice reminds me of the 90s with a modern take.

The way she interpolates riffs from other songs into these arrangements is so inspiring. I didn’t even know you were allowed to do that

Great comparison. I loved Imogen since the 90s with iMegaphone. It’s been great to see her change. Very similar creative women.

This is by far the greatest acoustic performance I’ve ever heard

I love this sm for some reason it feels so raw and otherworldly, I love how she's so confident and relaxed yet v controlled when she sings, so refreshing

I can't tell what's more impressive, Caroline's vocals or the fact she was able to resurrect John Lennon to get him on the drums

Who said what she's saying is important? I don't know most of her lyrics. The important thing is her voice.

Caroline is in a league all her own. Not just her singing prowess and song writing, but her embodiment of music as a performer. Her backing band also cannot be overlooked. So happy to be inspired by such an incredible artist.

Yes, her voice is sooo unique. She has used it in so many creative ways (with her solo projects as well as collaborating with other artists. Search for "Caroline Polachek set @ 7 by 7 | A. G. Cook". Or also the extended version of The Gate. Both are out of this world experiences).

She must be one of the greatest vocalists ive never heard of. Until today. Thanks tiny desk.

Sorry, but I am on the "unlistenable" side too. Singing minor and major thirds is the only thing this music is about. But people with no knowledge about music consider this as remarkable "vocal effects".

The backing vocalists! Think of the skill it takes to do her backing vocals justice, given that they’re entirely recorded by her in the originals. You almost don’t notice, you’re just used to the parts being there and they sound right. But that is exactly what’s so impressive, what a feat

Never heard of her before watching this, and one song in, I’m looking up more of her music for sure.

I’m a 👴 . An old hip hop and Jamaican / British reggae head…desire I want to is one of my all time favourites classic albums. if not a cure to any malaise at least a healing balm imho

i love how intentional she is with her music, like in the brief moment where the keys played alone during the bridge in sunset, the melody from the chorus of bunny is a rider was playing

She's happy to be in a room where people appreciate her on such a major level for her hard work

The control in her voice is always so mesmerising

i loved her little mix with ‘hey big eyes’ towards the end of ‘blood and butter’ it was so satisfying to hear 🫶🏼

Polachek's voice is like a gust of wind that carries you along

like nothing I have ever heard before ! ❤️ It’s so hard to hear something different that’s so good! Thank you all ! I love the music, writing, singing - You all have unique style- please keep your deep soul sound. I don’t understand it (as a basic pop-rock musician) but I love them. They play and sing every note with such passion. Large kudos to all! 🙏👍❤️ This is the first music in a long time I would love to support and buy.

@@lagunabxo you might be disappointed :D . In my opinion her solo project is much more unique than her previous work in Chairlift which I never really connected to apart from the famous hits at the time (which I guess I liked because it was on TV all the time in iPod commercials)

The year was 2012 I was a freshman in highschool BLARRING met before by chairlift and falling in love with SOMETHING. Now it's 2023 and I have a 2 year old and you're bigger than ever as a solo artist. I have never been more proud of an artist

Honestly the loml of all the artists I listen to. She is like if the word aura was to be embodied. It’s not just her vocals that are an instrument it’s her whole body and the way she moves with the sounds she evokes….UGH! I have yet to find an artist who effects me the way she does and I genuinely don’t think I ever will. Seeing her live was one of the best experiences of my life…to just be in her presence…☠️
