D.D Dumbo: NPR Music Field Recordings
Музыка
Mystery seems to swirl around D.D Dumbo. We'd heard all sorts of crazy rumors about this solo musician; namely, that Dumbo is a modern-day nomad whose only worldly possessions are his guitar and some crazy customized pedals. But once he arrived for one of our SXSW Backyard Sessions, here's what we discovered: Dumbo was born outside of Melbourne, Australia (birth name: Oliver Hugh Perry). He performs with a 12-string electric guitar, a simple drum set-up and some loop pedals. And he prefers to let his eclectic, drone-filled music speak for itself - so, alas, no comment on the nomad rumors.
If you listen closely to his music, though, one thing is certain: It's hard to nail down Dumbo's influences. As he performed for a curious crowd at Austin's Friends & Neighbors during SXSW, we heard numerous global destinations in his music - including stops in North African deserts, as well as a jaunt to the American South for a touch of the blues. Here, D.D Dumbo showcases two uniquely minimal songs: an unreleased song called "Walrus," and "Tropical Oceans," from his recent self-titled EP.

This guy is amazing. Such a unique sound!
I have watched this so many times. It never gets old and I keep coming back!
Wow! Amazing... I like how his amp is faced back at himself instead of out to the crowd... makes sense considering it's outdoors and he has no way of monitoring his sound.... very cool style. Thanks NPR for this!

Yaco Ale because if he wants to have the loops be perfect he needs to be able to hear it and its alot harder when it isnt facing him
This is one of the best musicians NPR Music has brought to us in a good while. Now I have to see if the rest of his stuff rides within these standards...
had no idea the walrus track was this old. check him out on soundcloud for the studio version which has even more layers omg!
Love the ingenuity here, you're great D.D. How cool!

I'll return to this version of Walrus from time to time when I need to release emotional tension. Remarkable song. ❤️🥹😢🥲
a week ago, i saw the name and thumbnail, and dismissed it as boring indie. eventually checked it out and thought, jesus, this isnt bad at all, but itll probably not be that great in a week. nope, ive listened to it pretty much every day since its been put up. i flipping love it and i regret being such a prune about it to begin with. fantastic use of loop pedals, cool songs, and a great voice
Wow!! Amazing. Think I'm in love
Bravo. Very talented young man.

This guy is very good. He Jams.
Remarkable
I hope he releases walrus on iTunes, love it!
absolutely class lads. i'd have the jam with this fella
Come back. Please.
2022 and still sharing
He appears to be using 'the force' now. I don't think anybody can do what he does if they have to think about it. Look at him hovering, with his foot, as if it's the foot that's choosing where to go. Now, he has either had to learn this through years of arduous conviction or he was born already a full member of the sound he makes. It's astounding.
wow.
Love the one man band idea.

Same Damn Thing. SAME Damn Thing. Over and over again. David Byrne called and he's pissed.
Does anyone know what that black pedal is inbetween the two akais?
@tomsquires5741
9 жыл бұрын
looks like a loop switcher between the two headrushes.
@killatape
8 жыл бұрын
So is that what makes it possible to record with both pedals at the same time, thus keeping them in sync? The loop switcher?
@hillbilly8621
6 жыл бұрын
Thought it was a loop switcher but can only see 1 XLR in and out, so I think its a Loopi mic mute, maybe to avoid bleed from the mic when recording loops?
So Trippy 😳💦
Shame he seems to have moved off of Bandcamp and over to the darkside(s), still I just ordered the CD.
