Flatbush Zombies: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Aug. 12, 2020 | Bobby Carter -- You've never really experienced the Flatbush Zombies if you haven't been to one of their live shows. The hip-hop group's knack for tearing down festival stages is well documented and the energy transfer between members Zombie Juice, Meechy Darko and Erick Arc Elliott and their crowds is ferocious to put it lightly. So when I heard that they were recording a Tiny Desk concert from home, I was curious as to if and how that energy would manifest in a confined space.
Backed by a powerful ensemble from a house in Los Angeles, the Zombies present themselves like we've never seen or heard. Stripped down versions of "when i'm gone," fan favorite, "Palm Trees" and the brand new James Blake-produced "Afterlife" are almost completely different from the recorded versions. I'm hoping this is the start of something new for the group once the regular show resumes.
SET LIST
"when i'm gone"
"Palm Trees"
"Afterlife"
MUSICIANS
Meechy Darko: vocals; Zombie Juice: vocals; Erick Ark Elliott: vocals; Danielle Withers: vocals; Nayanna Holley: vocals; Stevvi Alexander: vocals; Drin Elliott: drums; Robin Bramlett; bass; Brittani Washington; keys

How do you love rap when rap doesn’t love you back? From Rico Nasty’s harassment from toxic Carti fans, to Saucy Santana's unapologetically femme aesthetics in a queerphobic industry, to the assault case that put Megan Thee Stallion’s entire image on trial, each episode of Louder Than A Riot - the second season of our investigative hip-hop podcast - unpacks the unspoken rules of rap that hold the entire culture back. Tap in to our first episode at n.pr/louder-season-2.

It is sort of about being labeled as a number instead of an individual when it comes to the military draft. Why fight in a war for a country that will not protect you? In my example, it was about a black man in the Vietnam war. An underrepresented man in a controversial war.

All female band? Pretty dope!
Never heard of them but the swag of these dudes are enough to get you hooked. The heat that followed was the cherry on top.

The ladies killed those vocals on palm trees. That was beautiful
This gave me mad chills throughout the whole performance! Great performers and great human beings.
If I was walking in the woods and stumbled into this cabin I'd be convinced I was dead in heaven.
Been listening to these guys since I was in middle school, I start my 3rd year of college next week. Love these guys.

I’ve grown up in upstate NY and even here a lot of people I know have followed the zombies since their underground days over 10 years ago. Its amazing to see the zombies loving life, enhancing their art, and spreading good messages out here. Always love the tiny desk concerts, keep them coming👌🏼Palm trees sounded fire and really brought me back...solid concert ✊
Cant say that I was familiar with the group. Thank you NPR for putting me on game...!! This was an audio experience! This performance was so good that I'm honestly afraid to go hear the original versions of these cuts. Hard to live up to your "first date". If a band is not in their rotation, they need to hire these queens IMMEDIATELY!!

Hahahaha. Facts
That was hella nice ya'll. It's 2am here in Cali and I'm hearing ya'll for the 1st time. Trying to get my breathing right before going back to sleep so I can work and this is really helping me settle down. The vocalists remind me of the 90's styles I miss like Method man's 1st solo album. And brother on the left with the high voice on Palm Trees was reminding me of Boogiemonsters or Pharcyde. So dope ya'll 🙌

Look into everything they do, you won't be disappointed, major 90's vibes in a lot of their music. The guy in the middle (Erick "The Architect" Elliot) produces all their music and is such an amazing producer.
