Little Simz: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Bobby Carter | August 31, 2021
A lot has happened since we last saw Little Simz at the Tiny Desk in 2017. Her stock as an actress has risen thanks to her role on the Drake-pushed reboot of Top Boy on Netflix; her 2019 album, Grey Area, made plenty of best-of-the-year lists, and the London native received the prestigious Pioneer Award at last year's AIM Awards.
For her Tiny Desk home concert Simz beamed to us from a more modest setting than all of that might imply: a living room, dropped inside a void. But it's an appropriate space for Simz to introduce her self-searching new album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. That arc is pulled together here by a proficient group of players interpreting the relaxed sound of producer Inflo (who is on a run like few in the game at the moment - see Sault and Cleo Sol.) They open with the pulsing military drum and grandiose keys of the record's title track, closing with the bounce and sway of "Woman," dedicated to her mom. Between, a brutally honest message for her father, "I Love You, I Hate You," and a premiere of the Afrobeat bop "Point and Kill," featuring fellow London-based artist Obongjayar.

Actually the rap/hiphop scene in England has been the best on earth for at least the past 10-20 years, MF Doom anyone?? unfortunately Americans weren’t exposed to much more than that until quite recently. The countless, painfully mediocre artists who get famous in the US/Canada base everything down to their literal rapping style on British artists & rarely ever mention those particular influences much less give them any credit. For a great example, please look up/listen to Lady Leshurr, the mostly unknown young woman whose style Cardi B shamelessly ripped off, and you will understand how bad it is.
The backing singers are so well selected for her voice. Really great choices.
The drummer grooves so freaking hard.

@@Ayo.Ajisafe My Brother or Sis...we are with you. I been a fan of Dave, Kano, Ashley, Simon, etc well before I saw them in Top Boy. I rock with US worldwide. Im heavy into Alfa Mist, Yusuf Dayes, and Mansur Brown on the Jazz tip too. All Love.
they're the best! truly a blessing
Their energy is amazing
Didn't quite know what to expect here... But the music was dope and then she opened her mouth... Lyrics and delivery was on point! Everything felt organic to me. I really enjoyed this concert. The Band was dope, the back-up singers was dope, Little Simz was dope & the Artist she brought out was dope!!! I'm a fan now!!!

I can’t recommend her album Grey Area enough!! All of her music is great but that album is where you really start seeing her lyrics and production come together to create greatness
Man this band is so tight. Especially the drummer
This is a classic album that will last for 100 years. Only few artists like Fela Kuti, Nina Simone, Bob Marley, Eminem have made these albims and she is up there among the stars.
amazing. what a gift from these beautiful people
There’s no words to describe this. Album of the year, artist of the generation, Simz is King
The future of hip hop is no doubt female. Thanks, Little Simz, so much!
Brilliant performance! The back up vocals are divine ❤❤❤❤
