Justin Timberlake: Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
Stephen Thompson | March 15, 2024
Walking into the room shortly before Justin Timberlake took our cramped stage, I overheard someone on his team wondering aloud if this was to be the most densely populated Tiny Desk concert in history - which is to say, the most musicians we've ever fit in a single frame. It's not, but we don't often find a way to cram in this many human beings (15 in all) and this much gear.
Timberlake has never been one to give partial effort, but this is a production befitting the occasion: namely, a set timed to drop concurrently with the release of his new album, Everything I Thought It Was. Eschewing the rootsier feel of its predecessor, 2018's Man of the Woods, the new record is a throwback, an epic and a blowout - and so's this lavish set, which scales the Timberlake experience down to 25 minutes of maximalist celebration and, when the moment calls for it, chiller vibes.
Backed by his band The Tennessee Kids, Timberlake's Tiny Desk debut leans heavily on his early solo catalog, as he kicks it off with two songs from 2002's classic Justified and weaves in three more from 2006's magnificent FutureSex/LoveSounds - including a set-closing "SexyBack," which finds the singer trotting out a megaphone in a truly meme-worthy moment.
By the way, in case you're wondering, the all-time record for musicians behind the Tiny Desk is a whopping 23, a feat pulled off by the fantastic Mucca Pazza in 2015. But Timberlake and company rival that classic performance's energy - in both cases, the real triumph lies not in the Tetris of it all, but in the way that many people still find ways to move, buoyantly and as one mighty organism.

Are you aware that Africa is the birthplace of civilization and that Africa is the largest continent in the world and all of the worlds’ inhabitants derive from Africa? And do you know that European Caucasians are Biblically and scientifically the inferior race on Earth? Justin Timberlake is the least naturally talented in this tiny room but because he’s White and handsome, his privilege allowed him to be rich and famous. His career took off after he figured out that he needs Black people to make it in the entertainment industry because Black culture runs the world. The Kardashians are billionaires because of Black culture. So believing that TN is special when Motown is actually is special is why I laugh at White people! LOL SMDH!

Justin Bieber is Canadian and not American so that’s why he went with Usher instead of JT when there was a bidding war to sign him. Usher is a gifted vocalist. JT is a unicorn. Not many naturally gifted White vocalists in the world. And they don’t cater to White audiences. Definitely a JT fan but I don’t own any of his music. I can sing better than him my my group in the 90s was 1 in 1,000 Black groups. Backstreet Boys & N’Sync* blew up because they were White.

One of the best Tiny Desk Concerts I’ve ever seen! Such a great set! Everything including the kitchen sink! 0:16 "Señorita" 2:20 "Rock Your Body" 4:36 "Pusher Love Girl" 7:26 "Until The End Of Time" Interlude 11:00 “we wish you guys an amazing 2024, 2025 2026 ..” “we hope you graduate to ..” (lol) 12:36 "Selfish" 15:54 Trumpet 🎺 16:40 "What Goes Around" 19:40 "SexyBack"

Right? I have watched a few, this is one of the best for sure!
One thing I love about Justin is just how much he genuinely respects and gives credit to his band and backup singers. I saw him in 2018 and was blown away with how he gave all of them solos.
@nissan_skyline

Same here. I always find myself watching the live band as opposed to the main act during concerts. These musicians are so talented. Glad he gives them the acknowledgment and respect they deserve for their contributions to his music.

I've never been massive fans of either, but I've always genuinely appreciated that Justin and Miley Cyrus actually appear to deeply, passionately and truly love music. It's not just something they happen to be successful at. You could reasonably sit down with either and talk just about any genre or era, and I believe they'd have a deep, deep bag.

Jt was another one crushing it in the early 2000s. I’ve always loved his music .🔥❤
Dude doesn't put out an album for years then releases a killer new song, followed by a new album, goes on tiny desk, and almost 3 million views in 2 days, he's a legend and I'm grateful to have seen him live Solo three times and twice with NSYNC and never have been disappointed. It's the best because he's having so much fun with it and you can see that and it makes a huge difference!

I’d die for an album of these songs, with these engineers, this band, this mini megaphone, and these arrangements. That arrangement of sexyback is dope. Black stone absolutely killed this.
