Lous and The Yakuza: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Bob Boilen | January 27, 2021
There's an elegant vibe as Lous and The Yakuza perform a Tiny Desk from the Book Bar in the Hôtel Grand Amour in Paris. And while the music is smooth, upbeat and warm, what lies beneath in Lous backstory, in her French lyrics, is, at times, deep and disturbing.
Lous - an anagram for "soul" - is Marie-Pierra Kakoma, a 24-year-old artist based in Belgium but born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She came to Belgium because her family escaped war in the Congo. They were refugees. For her Tiny Desk (home) concert, she opens with her 2019 single, "Dilemme." The song conjures up images of growing up in the Congo and Rwanda: "Living haunts me, everything that surrounds me made me mean," she sings in French. Her songs are often set to Congolese rumba rhythms, filled with resilience, beauty and resistance.
These songs come from her 2020 album, Gore, and are steeped in a life that saw her mother imprisoned in the Congo for being Rwandan, then become separated during their escape to Belgium. They were eventually reunited, butLous was a troubled teen and spent a period of time adrift before pulling her life together in pursuit of music and art. There's much to uncover and discover here. This Tiny Desk (home) concert is a deep journey.

First song : "If I could I would live Alone, away from problems & dilemas, far from my chains and from the people I like." Second song : you re a good actor but i am looking for your motor, before leaving, just look inside if there is not bits of me remaining -a love song where she share love but would like her beloved not to act but to be. Third song: she would like to make money to help her brothers and sisters in despair ("dans la hess" in Arabic-French slang) even though the world is not going well Fourth song : since birth we are promissed everything but in exchange we must remain quite and shut the f*ck up, should I shout to be heard ? Whatever we do or say, we remain "solo" - she analyses our behaviors - Parle allez parle allez dis moi ce qui te gêne : "Talk to me hey talk to me hey tell me what bothers you" Fifth and final song: Amigo. Top 3 of my favorite Tiny Desk Videos. I've always loved her music/sound/etc. But THIS is what a "live" performance should be. She takes her classic songs but re-invents/arranges them in this orchestration. And her musicians are KILLING it here! Love this sound. She should release this as its own audio project. Makes me so happy!
Omg I never thought I'd see this one!!!! I just realized this is my first time hearing her speak English. Every interview I have seen she is speaking french.

being a native I have to focus to get the bulk of what is being said, so you must be a master at my language. And it is french from Brussels, Belgium, adding another unusual accent to the layers of comprehension. So, me being doubtful of your claim is an understatement. big understatement
The DIASPORA, Ladies and Gents. Bravo!
Lous, vous êtes sublime, vos yakuza aussi. Il y a du flow, des harmonies, du sens et des sons, une puissance douce... merci de vous livrer à nous
Listening in my car on the way back to London! Forever vibes 😎

Please share the other on your list. If you liked this, there’s a good chance I can take some from your list.
Words cannot express how much I love this woman 😩, she makes me want to learn French lowkey. There wasn’t a single skip in her recent album. I dead smiled when she said Dan les hess is her favorite song because I love that song ❤️.
I mustve played this like 50 times already.
Her music always calms me
i love how she smiles while singing
It’s Like I was transported somewhere, vacation vibes.
I could sleep on a bed made of her voice. So beautiful 😍
can't stop listenig to this performNCE on repeat ! she's so charming ! 😍😘 and the band is awesome!
6:47 this "black girl magic" had me melting!! She's absolutely gorgeous, her voice is ethereal and I just love this entire performance. Well done Lous (and the band)!
So it's legal for this sort of person to exist. She's a God. That's insane. She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and heard

Have discovered Lous and The Yakuza via Mascarade on Colors Show and got to know more thanks to her performance on Alicia Tour in Krakow, Poland last Sun 26/06/22. Now enjoying more thanks to the Tiny Desk so thank you!
How does this only have 5.4 million views when I have listened to it at least 5.3 million times?
