Julia Jacklin: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
Stephen Thompson | May 22, 2017 - Julia Jacklin doesn't need much accompaniment: If you were to hear the Australian singer-songwriter's unadorned voice, say, echoing at the top of a stairwell, you'd most likely climb to where it leads without a second thought. Jacklin's full-length debut, last year's Don't Let The Kids Win, knows just when and how to lean in to this simplicity, surrounding her with spare instrumentation that keeps that voice in the center of the frame.
For her Tiny Desk debut, Jacklin reproduces three of that album's drowsily beautiful ballads with the aid of a backing band so restrained, you can read the effort to keep quiet on their faces. The result is a calm and careful mix of mystery and approachability, warm and cool at the same time.

Being aware of the potential happiness in life as well as knowing the possible sadness it can endorse us. That's the mood she gets me in when i listen to her. I am happy and sad at the same time. Top shelf stuff.

I would say... It's hard to distract yourself from the hard truth. The cold inevitability of your currently well and and alive existence. This however... Preoccupies itself with all of our worldy distractions. Suspends you long enough to smell the roses and forget that you have to die.

I've looked the guy up. His name is Ian Daniel Kehoe. He played with Andy Shauf too. I can't think of another drummer who plays soooo quietly. I dig it, it's unique.

I discovered julia during a difficult time in my life and her music has graced my ears every single day since.
Please have her back performing songs from "Pre-Pleasure" soon!!
Just saw her open for First Aid Kit. Weeping after she closed with "Don't Let the Kids Win". Rarely have I seen an opening act so defty command the shuffling and chatt audience until she had us rapt. What a talent. I can't wait to hear more from her.

Yeah, I was a bit of a geek about it. I got there early, early and stood 10 feet from stage. I had never really heard JJ before so for me it was all new. Being close made the difference I daresay. I wonder if you can't make your way up. Seated venue?

yeah huge concert hall. id be on second story. doesnt seem to fit. i think better off catching her in aus where she headlines and plays smaller intimate venues. she has a second less serious band, phantastic ferniture with a few of their singles up on youtube if you wernt aware.

I love her voice. She my favorite vocalist ever.
Her voice is so enchanting! I can't believe the beauty of her music, it blows me away.
She’s my new favorite woman in the entire world. Also that guitar solo was absolutely nuts

She has grown and grown on me to the point where I rate her with the absolute best artists around. I have no fears that her next albums willl be stunning too because she is the real thing through to the core.
That first song got me. Mmm, why do I love penseive melancholy songs so much?!
Eddie Boyd works brilliantly with Julia Jacklin in vocals and guitar. The whole band is a delight to hear and watch.
i havent cried in like 10 years and i cried 4 times while watching this. Great stuff
miss julia changed my life with that first song
i saw her live last october. she opened with don't let the kids win and i was immediately crying within the first 30 seconds of the song. her sound is so passionate yet so delicate... like life itself
Omg, I'm just discovering her,and I am hooked! She is most excellent! I'm in heaven! Best discovery in a long while! X

What a bless of enjoyment for 15 minutes
im in love with the entire band, the music julia jacklin and her voice
wow! I remember reading an article about the "cleanest" festival in Australia how everyone cleaned up after themselves, and when I searched for your music I heard "don't let the kids win" and nearly all the songs off that album really resonated with me. When you had a new album, I listened to it with my daughter, so "body" was confronting (for me) but she was already there... there is a power in the realness, truth and vulnerability -- it's awesome. Keep doing! You are amazing.
Very good handmade music, good luck and greetings from Switzerland

after 2 minutes I had tears in my eyes and ordered the vinyl - thank you

just saw her live in nashville, what an amazing performer!
she's beautiful in endless ways
Recently saw her live-one of the best shows I've ever experienced!
Best version of don’t let the kids win
One of the best tiny desk IMO for the first song alone
love the whole ensemble. wow have never seen musicians working so well together. ahh makes me happy
All of it was so very good, but the guitar solo at the end of the set was absolutely exquisite
I admire each band member's respect for the music! I am sure it doesn't matter they play to a stadium or few fellows on the street.
Que hermosa voz, adoro a Julia!!
about to cry tonight at ACL with Julia and First Aid Kit.

She is seriously beautiful
LEADLIGHT (SECOND SONG) I was once a Sunday kneeler When I saw the leadlight, fall from the pane I didn't know that the grass, was not only greener Upkeep is cheaper, when you embrace the rain So I jumped down and lay with my leadlight And under your spotlight, I lay with the shards And I didn't know that the ground, was not only harder Oh but colder when you are not around I love you my darling, I do But I can't let possession make a fool of you I love you my darling, I do But I can't promise I'll be here to see this whole love through So I ran with dreams to reach the skyline And straight up that incline, I ran towards the blue And I didn't know that the sky, is not only wider Oh but clearer when I'm standing next to you I love you my darling, I do But I can't let possession make a fool of you I love you my darling, I do But I can't promise I'll be here to see this whole love through Oh I believe in trust you see But don't you go and put your trust in me I cost more than you earn So tell me boy why didn't you ever learn? I love you my darling, I do But I can't let possession make a fool of you I love you my darling, I do But I can't promise I'll be here to see this whole love through
The first song ALWAYS gets me.
I absolutely love her
So beautiful

been a fan of NPR videos for a while... but I share them only with friends who are "able" to appreciate such gems. Not being selfish, just sensate.
Amusing how she reminds me of Andy Shauf and later realizing that her drummer used to play for Andy. Just putting this here on the internet
so good!
