PWR BTTM: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
April 4, 2016 by BOB BOILEN
It took only a few power chords, a sprinkle of glitter and the occasional jokey line - "We can do our makeup in the parking lot / We can get so famous that I might get shot / But right now I'm in the shower" - to forever hook me on PWR BTTM. The queer, glammy, wildly dressed duo has a keen sense of mischief and a real gift for honest, punk-infused, tongue-in-cheek pop gems.
Ben Hopkins (in red, fingernails included) and Liv Bruce swap roles as singers, guitarists, drummers and storytellers, each trying to playfully one-up the other. It's a show that might have worn thin if the songs (from last year's Ugly Cherries) weren't so much damn fun. Instead, they're likely to stay with you as long as the glitter has stayed in my clothes and carpet fibers.
Ugly Cherries is available now:
iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/album/ugl...
Amazon: www.amazon.com/Ugly-Cherries-P...
Set List:
"Ugly Cherries"
"Dairy Queen"
"Nu 1"
"C U Around"
Credits:
Producers: Bob Boilen, Niki Walker; Audio Engineers: Josh Rogosin; Videographers: Niki Walker, Kara Frame; Production Assistant: Jackson Sinnenberg; Photo: Brandon Chew/NPR.

I saw the thumbnail and just thought "You know what? Fuck it, roll the dice!" and fucking hell, I'm on the floor eating my own heart out with a shovel from these happy glitter punk tunes. The sarky attitude, the math rock guitar moves pulled off like it's easy to do, the complete and utter comfort of being so authentically themselves. Does everything have to be finely tuned and polished these days to constitute as music? We wouldn't have punk, jazz etc. and all their glorious and expressive off shoots if that was the case. For me, the fact that you can see that the band are clearly enjoying every sound they are creating is what makes this a great performance. We need more musicians genuinely loving and being proud of the sound they are creating and less of these robot producers churning out the same overly produced, soulless tracks (not naming any genres) over and over. DOWN WITH MUSICAL LIMITATIONS, UP WITH DETUNED GUITARS. Keep doing your wonky, glittery thing pwr bttm, you brightened my day for sure!

You sound like those stupid hipsters talking like that dude. A song is not more authentic and spontaneous just because it has detuned instruments, it is just amateur. These two are so talented! Can't stop watching over and over! They have a sort of Pavement feel to their music! Love it ❤️❤️❤️
Sad to see such a great band fall apart so quickly. :(
