Sevdaliza: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Музыка
The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Bob Boilen | January 5, 2021
"Good afternoon humans, my name is Sevdaliza, you're very welcome on flight 808; our destination is Shabrang." And so begins our elegant, ethereal journey. We hear an old reel-to-reel tape machine spinning some Brazilian bossa nova sounds, then shift to something more somber. Sevdaliza is seated, the tones are golden and brown, and her yearning voice sings, "I am flesh, bones / I am skin, soul / I am human." The song, "Human," which casts away the notion of artists - particularly female artists - as products.
It's a defiant stand from this Iranian-born artist. Sevdaliza is an original, a truly creative soul. Her collaborators play delicate textures - electronic percussion, buzzing, swirling synth sounds, and cello and violin beautifully enhance texture and melody.
The home for this Tiny Desk (home) concert is a culturally significant bookstore and publishing house in Amsterdam called MENDO. Its warmth sets the tone for songs from Sevdaliza's album Shabrang. If you haven't heard her record, this is a perfect introduction to an album you shouldn't have missed in 2020.

I'm so happy Sevdaliza was on Tinydesk. She deserves all the recognitions. She doesn't create music, she creates soundscapes and emotions, This was just as amazing of all the other things she's done!

When she started talking😭😭😭😭omg how can someone be so flawless 😭😭😭
She has been my inspiration for the last 4-5yrs. She is so strong in who she is. She is able to create music that speaks to the soul. That awakens the soul. That stops you dead in your tracks because it’s moving your body without you realizing it. I am proud and honored to be able to watch the growth in this time. I know there is so much more that goes into everything than what is shown. I am thankful that has all worked out because she has stayed true to herself. I am thankful for this moment. Thank you all, who made this possible. Every step of the way

This hits my 14-year-old Portishead vibes hard.
"Gole Bi Goldoon" makes me cry. She is a treasure.
Been a fan since “That Other Girl”. You’re amazing, from one singer to another. Continued blessings to you, Sevdaliza. ❤️
Following her work since Sirens of the caspian and she never fails to give an outstanding performance.

Very nice of you !
Gol bi Goldoon is a beautiful Persian song originally by Googoosh. Here is the English translation for anyone who was wondering: you were telling me that i'm nothing without you stay with me forever if you're not be here, i'll die flower without flower-vase, it's impossible (it can't be) what a mistake I made that i believed your words a cold day in autumn you broke your flower-vase like the bride of flowers you sat in the greenhouse the spring will come again they'll bring you again like an ornamental flower they'll plant you in a greenhouse you'll say to your(new) flower-vase again "stay with me forever" you say "i'll die without you" flower without flower vase, it's impossible what a mistake she makes that she believes your words

@@mf1553 you are correct, I didn’t mean to say that the audio was pre-recorded, only that the performance was recorded before the release and not live. thanks for the clarification because it would be accurate to say that it was recorded live, so I used the wrong terminology, my apologies. we agree that it was post mixed and that is probably why 0P questioned how it sounds so good
