For the third year, Tiny Desk concerts team up with globalFEST for a thrilling online music festival - Tiny Desk meets globalFEST.

Hosted by Angélique Kidjo, the series echoes globalFEST’s live flagship event in spirit but is centered in the framework of the Tiny Desk concert series. This collaboration presents exclusive video performances from nine artists filmed in their respective homelands, on the road and in exile all over the world. There will be three nights of concerts, each featuring three bands, on consecutive nights beginning Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. The globalFEST team wrote the following biographical information about each performer.
Taraf de Caliu, Romania
After more than three decades of relentlessly touring all over the world, the founding members of Taraf de Haidouks reunited for a new project: Taraf de Caliu. The musicians from Clejani, Romania are the last generation of “lautari” that carry on this authentic traditional music from southern Romania, the music that defined them as one of the best gypsy bands in the world. Under the lead of Caliu, the iconic violinist of the taraf, they are on the road again.

The Horse in the back is intentional, because Caliu is a nickname from the Romanian word for horse :,,cal" ..Caliu's real name is Gheorghe Anghel,a very beautiful ROMANIAN name and I guess his nickname is from his childhood when he mispronounced the word ,,calul" to ,,Caliu-l"..

After the death of many important members, respectively after the Stephane Karo death in 2016 (their manager who formed the whole gypsy band in 1990 in Clejani, and gave the name Taraf de Haidouks, respectively traveled with them to all corners of the planet in hundreds of concerts), Caliu has decided to start his own project / gypsy band, to continue more or less this beautiful story of Taraf de Haidouks. CALIU with his son (Robert), Ionica Tanase (cimbalom), Marius Manole (acordeon, voice) , Iulian Vlad (double bass) & Viorica Rudareasa (voice, which wasn't appeared in this movie) continued and now are still alive through this formula called: TARAF DE CALIU.

They played all day in they’re garden for this 15 minutes
vocalistul lasa muuult de dorit. Se simte scoala de manele. Pe vocal nu prea a mai aparut ceva demn de observat in acest domeniu. Pacat !
