Fanfarlo: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
After playing a pair of songs from Reservoir, the band closed with a cover of Low's 1999 song "Just Like Christmas." Fanfarlo's members had practiced it all the way from Baltimore to D.C., not exactly a trek across continents, but the result was, well, perfect.

Listening to this in 2020, 10 years after I first watched and it's still amazing
There is something fucking amazing that happened in this live session that the album "Reservoir" is only a shadow of a shadow of. "Comets," and "Drowning Men," here, live are so full of life so vibrant, so yearning, and they're just dead on the album. I'm so grateful these recordings exist.
Since it isn't already listed, here are the performers: Simon Balthazar - Vocal/Guitar Cathy Lucas - Mandolin/vocals Amos Memon - Vocals (in the scarf) Leon Beckenham - Percussion/Melodica/Vocals Justin Finch- Vocals/Mandolin/Guitar (In the glasses) Pamela Martinez- Harp
Great band... Old times... Great years listening this songs......
tinydesk has introduced me to my favorite bands
Love Fanfarlo, great to see them do a tiny desk concert. Hope to see them in concert soon.
Smiling like a goofball over here after listening to Just Like Christmas cover. Probably my favorite Christmas song ever.
miss you
very good. i love this,
Me fascinan...saludos desde Chile.
This version of Comets is sublime! The mandolin, harp, melodica, and harmony at 8:42 is bliss.
fanfarlo is simply brilliant
this band are so original seen them in the UK Nottingham small gigs & supporting snow patrol stadium gig, carry on what you do best.
Good sounding band. Interesting mix of instruments. Sounds fresh.
so gooddd
I love Fanfarlo! : D But I missed them when they came to DC. Gosh, I'll see them one day.
i find it incredible that there have been 18,318 views but only 89 likes. how can you not like this?
I do love Typhoon as well!
Awesome performance! I have this on my ipod :D
man this kid has a set of pipes
Great performance!! 5***** from Holland, greetings Bram
best band ever!!
so a fanfarlo cover of the best fucking christmas song ever has existed for almost two years and i didn't know this until just now? fuck everything
how come Tinydesk and NPR has not been and is not being stormed with views. These are not only awesome bands that are not all main stream but even main stream bands are on here and no body seems to know it. And i say the best performances are from them live on these two places. Good quality and they can actually sing they're not just studio artists.
@Beautifulandlight "Low" is the original band that did the christmas song.
my high school jam
What happened to Fanfarlo. I guess they split. Such a shame - such lovely music
Invite Typhoon!! they're awesome and this fits their style.
Always a Great Idea to Get Out The Harp!!!
They're so lovely. The harpist, Pam, was great! I love the Christmas cover but I can't remember who it's originally by! Anyone know?
@82coma same here!
What kind of guitar is that? Love the sound
@82coma me too dude!
This is lovely. Also, that guy with the tiny crazy-straw-piano has got to feel ridiculous most all of the time.
me too
@katethourot That's a melodica. They're pretty cool, even if they're silly looking. :)
Does anyone know what that piano thing attached by a tube to the mouthpiece is called?
someone please get a mic on that melodica
is that Jorma in the back round o.O?
Cathy is so beautiful
@FROGASDF that is hilarious!!!!
@FROGASDF ROFL I did not notice that before...
it's called a melodica :)
I kind of like the fact that most people out there are too stupid, lazy or indifferent to catch on to how totally life changing NPR Tiny Desk is. It's our little secret then...fine by me...good luck watching J Lo and Lady Ga ga. Oh and these guys are awsome....thankyou yet again Tiny Desk.
melodica win!
A lady with a mandolin is automatically hot.
That one guy turned his toy keyboard into a bong. That's shameful.
wtf !
I want to punch something b/c the girl will not strum the harp!
It was weird hearing the lead singer say everything they do is magnificent. Kinda cocky.
