Fujii Kaze: Tiny Desk Concerts JAPAN
Музыка
Suraya Mohamed | April 12, 2024
In the corner of a busy office at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, a staffer rearranged books, vinyl records and tchotchkes on a bright red shelving unit. The production crew double-checked equipment settings and made small adjustments to the lighting. Another worker added a few more posters to the tall white file cabinets. Cameras were set and microphones were ready because Fujii Kaze and his band had just rehearsed the night before. Everyone in the room - including a few of us from NPR that were there to help - was eager and excited because the very first performance for Tiny Desk Concerts JAPAN was about to start.
Popular around the world, the talented Fujii Kaze is a Japanese singer and pianist known for his sultry R&B grooves and catchy songwriting. His adventurous spirit was strong as he settled into the Tiny Desk way - a concert that's intimate, mostly acoustic and recorded without reverb, effects, in-ear monitors or wedges. During the rehearsal, the band quickly acclimated to the environment and adjusted instrument volumes to hear each other better. The end result was a beautiful 30 minute set, captured without pause and with no stops, restarts or retakes.
This video is part of the second international version of Tiny Desk, a joint venture between NPR and The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) - the sole public media organization in Japan that is operated with the purpose of providing the latest news, education and culture both domestically and internationally. This new series will spotlight emerging and established Japanese artists with the same engaged performances, look and feel of the original Tiny Desk Concerts series.

@@ryanperez4322 Most if not all of Fujii Kaze's songs are like this if you haven't listened to his work before this video. I like to refer to him as the Bruno Mars of Japan because he's bringing back that 80s and 90s style of city-pop and R&B while still having a modern touch. Some other Japanese songs with a similar style to this are Pop Virus, Ain't Nobody Know, and Comedy/Shigeki all by Gen Hoshino.

His music is tuned to 432hz instead of the standard 440hz, which gives his songs a unique warmth and beauty.
@jeneticallyfkd
10 күн бұрын
@@myrose0123 ok my time to shine, firstly let’s talk about wavelengths. Sound, including Fujii Kaze’s marvellous voice travels in the form of waves through the air, these waves have different lengths corespondent to different pitches, when Fujii Kaze sings, his voice generates a medley of waves with varying lengths, producing a rich spectrum of tones that resonate both with our ears and souls. For example, in Matsuri, the chorus goes from a high pitch with a bright and energetic tone that perfectly reflects the celebratory theme of the song while also delving into the relaxed and conversational tone during the verses, adding a warm, gentle and intimate timbre. When the electric guitar part comes, his vocals become climactic and again change the tone. Humans making sound itself is complex interplay of airflow, vocal cord vibrations, and resonance within the vocal tract. Fujii Kaze's ability to control these factors with precision allows him to effortlessly transition between high and low pitches, creating the masterpiece we just watched. Fujii Kaze's voice exhibits a distinctive timbre, or tone quality, that is warm and resonant . Timbre is influenced by the shape of the vocal tract and the unique characteristics of the vocal cords, and Fujii Kaze's timbre evokes a sense of intimacy and emotional depth in his music. Specially seen in “Garden” according to me, the lyrics blended with the tone of his voice almost too perfectly. Anyway he’s a gem, love him. (I have a literature paper tomorrow, I will bid you guys adieu now, thank you)

I lived with paralysing PTSD. Basically I was borderline alive for a decade. Then one day last year I randomly stumbled upon Kaze's Love All Serve All concert on Netflix. Long story short, by listening to his amazing songs every day, Kaze's message of joy, self-love and acceptance germinated in my soul. Within a few short weeks no more PTSD. No more nightmares. No more depressive thoughts. His music hit me like a miracle freight train. btw, I keep this story on the low because, fact, nobody would believe it if I told them.

What do you expect white people? They are not Japanese, nor do they understand Japan and the context of the lives of the people living in Japan. The human race lacks the basic ability of empathy and seeing the perspectives of others. Thus we will always rely on stereotypes and cliches. He is the most down to earth musician that I ever seen. I'm sure he will even more successful. What an loving amazing man he is:)
I literally can't stop listening to this. Fuji Kaze's music is honestly so freakin good. And his band? My goodness, did he literally just gather the coolest cats in all Japan? SHEEESH!!!
このtiny deskは、もっともっと世界の風さんを知らない人にも、届きますように。 そして、風さんの音楽で気持ち良く幸せに暮らせる人がもっともっと増えますように。

I love how many people discovered Fujii Kaze with this video and are praising him for his talent! He truly deserves to be recognized!
i really appreciate that there seems to be no reverb, effects, or bgm used. just raw vocals❤ beautiful

Never heart about the guy but they all are awesome musicians. Will listen more his live performances. Greetings from the Czech Republic

Thank you for this. I have a language disability making it difficult to learn new languages yet have enjoyed how Japanese sounds. It is a very beautiful experience to read words translated from another I might not understand otherwise as so close to thoughts I've only had in my head. Again thank you and hope your day is beautiful too.

I was so sad that I was not going to be able to go to the concert here in the States. This mini concert made up for it so I’m happy again 😊. Thank you so much for the music ❤

The resale price may go down towards close to concert dates if that’s your concern , it’s very frustrating of resale system here in states that so many wanted tickets may be wasted:((((

Yeah. Between airline tickets, hotel, parking, etc. on top of the ticket price, it’s a bit steep 😱
