Rodrigo y Gabriela: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Музыка
I can't think of a better way to describe the music of Rodrigo y Gabriela than with three words: "heavy metal flamenco." And yet the duo doesn't play heavy metal - its members perform instrumentals on nylon-string guitars - nor does it play Spanish dance music. But the term fits because the pair's fierce guitar riffs feel powerfully electric, and because Rodrigo y Gabriela's rhythmic style showcases a frenetic strum that conjures the energy of flamenco.
The duo have just released a new album titled, 11:11, which pays tribute to the pair's heroes - Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Astor Piazzolla and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell. They recently performed a few tracks for the NPR Music Tiny Desk series including "Hanuman" and "Buster Voodoo."

Show me a proper Christian living under the Ten bound by scripture. That hasn't happened since WW1, when we all got loaded onto the citizenships. Bonded to debt from berth for a war we weren't born during. This is globaal Egypt and all are bondsmen to the national debts. Globaalism. Pagans and heathens everywhere pretending to be religious. Worshiping the Bottle, or the internet, or what they see in the mirror or some other idol or false idea, certainly none follow the Cross. We used to hit people for lying. I miss those days.
Both of these wonderful people decided to make Dublin Ireland their home for a number of years. They would busk on Grafton Street and people were just mesmerised by their magic. They absolutely deserve all of the notoriety that they have received. ❤️❤️

So talented and genuinely nice, I remember seeing them around Rathmines in the early 2000's, and going to the old Tower Records on Wicklow Street to watch, what I believe was their launch of Re-Foc with only a handful of people in attendance. They've come such a long way, and deservedly so, not surprising though.

A guitarist friend and I were talking and he kept going on about what a great guitarist that the guy was. It's true but he is just playing lead while she is a whole rhythm and percussion section by herself.
Rodrigo's lead guitar is so smooth but the fact that Gabriella literally created her own style of guitar strumming is what makes them truly amazing

She did create her own style. Its not traditional rumba. Rumba mixed with elements of jazz, funk, metal, and latin folk. Plus if you look at her right hand movement it is definitely a different technique than those used by flamenco players. Similar. Its like its a parody of it but then it becomes its own unique thing. She even said it herself. In her beginnings she tried to emulate flamenco by ear so she came up with a different way of doing it.
I couldn't find anything negative to say about either of these two if I tried to make something up. but the zone that Gabriella gets into when she's playing is a place I only wish I can make it to in my head one day. To have that focus and to so perfectly balance the art that Rodrigo breathes is a talent VERY few people (myself obviously included) will ever possess. These two, individually, and as a duo, will forever have a place in my heart when I need to feel...anything. Thank you.

I play a little guitar. When I watch high-caliber guitarists generally pay most of my attention to breaking down the neck work. Rodrigo y Gabriela are the exception. Gabriela is one of the most masterful rythem guitar players alive today. She bangs her guitar like she considers it a percussion instrument closer to a drum than a piano.

After nearly 16 years of playing guitar, I believe the true challenge is mastering your right hand technique.
@apothecary0420
8 жыл бұрын
+S Mandalios I agree, the right hand is the foundation to solid guitar (as rhythmic intelligence is a prerequisite to competant musicanship). The left hand, however, is where true skill in music theory is displayed. When a good guitar player plays, their right hand is on autopilot. Every iota of cognisince goes into deciding variations up and down the neck.
@Siritos
8 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, as I can't read music, nor do I have any understanding of the theory. So it's cool that you can make that distinction. I have a good grasp of the technique and a good ear, but the way I understand my left hand is about using shapes and patterns, and sometimes just trying random things to create something new.
Gave me carpal tunnel just watching them. Incredible!
Their talents transcend human comprehension, truly..impeccable guitar playing, as if the instruments are mere extensions of themselves. I fell in love with them some years ago and it seems I've fallen once again. Flawless beauty at its finest.

I had completely forgotten about Rodrigo y Gabriela. Such a great duo.

It's cool to see how the desk n shelves have changed over a decade . Still bringing us great music
My first exposure to Rodrigo y Gabriela was late one night lying in my bed about to go to sleep the tv was on in he background to mtv and late night they actually play music videos and they were playing a music video for Diablo rojo and I immediately sat up in bed and listened to the entire song, I was mesmerized by they're music I've loved them ever since

First time for me was flipping through radio stations, and I heard these guitars and drums on a local public station. It was these two. I LOVED it. Halfway through the song. Song ended, and then the announcer joked about how the were NOT flamenco, making it clear that the duo had joked about how they were not flamenco. I went home and eventually ended up with the CD. I think my ex-husband might have bought it for me for Christmas. I've been hooked ever since. LOVE THEM.
