Until The Ribbon Breaks: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Музыка

The beauty of the Tiny Desk lies, at least partially, in the limitations of size and technology. We rarely amplify voices, for example, so for a band like Until The Ribbon Breaks, the challenge becomes how to take a loud electronic sound down to a volume where singer Pete Lawrie-Winfield can be heard. In this case, the solution involved a spaghetti strainer, a paint bucket and an acoustic guitar.
It wasn't easy for Until The Ribbon Breaks to devise new arrangements for tried-and-true songs like "Pressure," from its full-length debut A Lesson Unlearnt. But it worked, because the Cardiff band's dance beats are always secondary to strong melodies and songwriting.

I saw this group live at Revelry Fest in Madison while waiting for Chance the Rapper and the Chainsmokers. Wasn't expecting much, but this group is phenomenal live and I went from never hearing a song from them to putting them in all my playlists. If you can, see them live!

We need another Tiny Desk with there new album, they're my favorite band. They have such powerful lyrics, Pete was fighting a battle with alcoholism at that time, that he later won.

Listening to UTRB perform so wonderfully on Tiny Desk has really allowed me to appreciate their studio album more. Thanks for providing a fresh perspective on UTRB, NPR. In my opinion, fantastic with or without the electronic beats. Plus, his laugh is pretty great!

Saw them open for London Grammar. Sounded great live and with all the electricity.

I first heard of them when they opened for London Grammar. I'll admit, I'd listening to their cover of "One Way or Another" which was up on spotify, but it didn't strike me the way they did live. I loved the way they sounded live. I passed up on buying london grammar merch to get their CD, and even now, it's something i regularly play on my drive to school. This is...softer than their CD for sure. I love the way this sounds too. Probably more appealing to the average NPR listener than their more synthesized CD sound, or their normal loud sound.

One of several artists lately that are SO much better on tiny desk than their recorded albums. I love this sound from them rather than their album.

Cindy McVay Look no farther than the producer of an album. Producers stamp their tricks all over real artists sounds, too justify their high wages. Which to me just kills the organics of all the sounds.

I actually prefer their more produced studio sound. Their live sounds has a more singer/songwriter feel, and that is a dime a dozen these days. Lyrics are awesome, regardless.
